Let’s work as a team and do it my way…

HAAR recently conducted an in-depth survey that even Donald Trump would reference, and determined that people are indeed quite individual, both in behaviour and approach to how they do things. However, when you gather a bunch of like-minded people with a common goal and set them to solve problems, they’ve often quite good at doing so!

So then why do organisations insist on implementing bloated organisational structures with mandates to reinvent wheels after taking advise from consulting companies peddling the latest ‘cure all’ business approach - often presented by the same people who provided the previous dose of snake oil?

Then under the guise of ‘business improvement’, catch phrase of ‘we need to change to remain relevant’ and claims of ‘the market told us to’ they cycle through people to conceive elastic dissonance by designing, building and implementing their own structures based on KPI’s largely lining their pockets, rather than developing environments which allow people to thrive. Justifying their existence usually involves implementing rigid constructs, policies and procedures policed by additional layers of management ostensibly there to ‘help’, however largely in place to control. On the plus side they used to ensure a regular supply of farewell events with free food and drink, well at least until Covid resulted in everyone having to BYO and host from home…

Perhaps it is time to rethink these norms and rather than spin proverbial structural wheels, look at truly empowering the workforce to innovate and deliver, sans constant change, with less overhead, less lines of control and more freedom to contribute to the bottom line?
