No Fun + No Banter = Poor Productivity

When HAAR thinks about work, we don't immediately go to 'Objectives', 'Key Results' and 'Making our shareholders wealthy' - well unless that wealth is into our pockets, clearly that's different, We think about 'team activation', 'team engagement' and 'having fun'. Also meaningless catch phrases, air quotes and highlighting certain words to make them stand out...

Ensuring your team is happy should be the starting point of any long and loving relationship, and we suggest focusing on 'fun before formality', after all we're people, not robots. Much like the adage of 'Happy wife, happy life' resonating at home, having a fun workforce will result in increased productivity and <insert buzzword(s)> for the organisation.

Rather than assuming productivity is gained through forcing people to talk about 'career goals' ultimately focused on line management instead of just doing what they love, or complex performance review processes that promise reward against obscure targets, guesstimated 12 months in advance, maybe just making the workplace fun should be the focus? Ultimately it's not rocket surgery and as they say in the classics: Fun workplaces take y'alls profits into space!

HAAR suggests techniques like forcing team members to participate in daily online quizzes. comparing results with other teams on a public scoreboard, followed up with good old fashioned banter and ribbing of those who didn't know Chelsea Winter was the winner of Masterchef New Zealand this year. You know who you are!

Let us know what you do in your workplace!

Brilliant article, worthy publishing on LinkedIn as well, perhaps even Medium.
